The NFPMT is a two-year program designed to support and strengthen the longitudinal learning experiences of Pre-Vocational Medical Trainees. Your Internship is based around 5 rotations both on site at SVHM Fitzroy Campus and at our secondment hospitals. Each rotation offers varying clinical experiences and foundational skills that are essential for your future practice. Please review our list of Intern rotations available in 2025, for an indication of what may be on offer in 2026. Please note, there are specific requirements set by the Medical Board of Australia to certify successful completion of internship and granting general registration upon completion of PGY1. This includes: Completion of 47 weeks of clinical experience, inclusive professional development leave Completion of terms with exposure to all four clinical experiences: A: Undifferentiated illness care B: Chronic Illness care C: Acute and critical illness care D: Peri-operative/procedural care The rotations on offer at SVHM are in accordance with the above requirements, and annual leave is allocated both within the clinical year, and upon completion of PGY1, before commencing PGY2. Orientation Your Internship will begin with a comprehensive and compulsory three-day Orientation. This program is a combination of interactive lectures and practical upskilling sessions (including cannulation and basic life support amongst others), as well as a Shadow Shift with a near-peer to support you. Orientation for the 2026 Intern cohort will begin Wednesday 8th January 2026. Education St Vincent's Hospital provides a robust Intern Education program, with weekly protected education sessions tailor-made for Interns, including practical sessions in our state-of-the-art simulation lab, suturing and small tutorial group work.
