Clinical Trials You are here:HomeResearchClinical Trials What is a clinical trial?Clinical trials are a type of research involving human volunteers dedicated to generating new high quality evidence-based medical interventions. The purpose of a clinical trial is to evaluate new approaches in treating particular conditions or diseases under controlled conditions. This involves determining how well people respond to new treatments, what side effects there are, and how well they are tolerated. Clinical trials are not only essential in the development of new medicines and medical devices they are also conducted to find new uses for existing medicines. St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne is at the forefront of innovative research making us a premier site for medical research and clinical trials. National Clinical Trials Governance FrameworkIn 2020, St Vincent’s Health Network, Sydney and Melbourne has been selected as one of the 14 pilot sites for the pilot of the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework.
