RN Refresher Program

Are you a Registered Nurse keen to re-enter the workforce in the acute or sub-acute hospital settings? Apply to the St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) Nurse Refresher Program!

SVHM is offering Registered Nurses who hold current (condition-free) AHPRA registration the opportunity to re-enter the nursing workforce. Our Registered Nurse Refresher Program provides a program of education, ward-based learning and support. The refresher program provides an opportunity for you to gain experience and confidence in the hospital setting. The program includes access to clinical educators, skill acquisition and clinical placement on a hospital ward.

$10,000 scholarships are available* to enable candidates to cover the costs of program participation, such as living expenses, while completing the unpaid program.

About the role

• $10,000 scholarships from the Department of Health available to support participants to undertake the program
• Fully supported program with part-time options 0.6 FTE & 0.8 FTE

The refresher program will be delivered at the acute hospital sites (St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Fitzroy or St George's Health Service, Kew) across the following clinical specialities:

• General surgery
• Specialist surgery
• General medicine
• Oncology/haematology
• Neurology/stroke
• Operating Theatre
• Renal/dialysis
• Rehabilitation
• Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM)

Key dates and application details

• Program will commence on 23 June 2025

The refresher program will be completed over 8 - 10 weeks depending on the hours completed each week. It will be tailored to the individual learning needs of participants. To ensure the opportunity to consolidate learning, successful candidates must be able to commit to a minimum of three shifts per week, with two of these shifts on consecutive days.

The refresher program is not a paid position. Participants will be eligible for a scholarship to support attendance in the program. Participants are, upon successful completion of the program, considered for ongoing employment at SVHM.

Please note:

• Applicants are not required to be Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents or Australian permanent humanitarian visa holders.
• Applicants must ensure the conditions of their visa do not impede them from undertaking the refresher program.
• Internal employees are eligible to apply for the program if they wish to move into a different area of clinical practice.
