In your first week you will attend a comprehensive orientation outside of your clinical setting. You will be allocated clinical induction (supernumerary time) during which you will work alongside your preceptor or buddy nurse.
The education teams are dedicated to providing clinical support whilst you undertake the program.
Receive guidance from skilled nursing educators, preceptors/supervisors and leadership team within the clinical area.
The programs offer an online e-Learning platform, for digital sharing of content and information. The programs are designed to utilise adult principles of self-directed learning, with accompanying clinical support, study days, and objective-based assessment to apply self-directed knowledge.
Access to Speciality Program Coordinator and Manager, who oversee the Pathway to Speciality Practice and Transition to Speciality Practice programs, across St. Vincent’s Melbourne health services. Available to discuss future career and professional opportunities, following your program completion.
St. Vincent’s is affiliated with various University providers, across Victoria and Australia. Current partnerships provide an opportunity to apply with these providers advanced stranding.
This is only applicable to those that successfully complete all aspects of their respective program.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free confidential counselling service providing short-term and solutions focused advice which aims to support you in resolving personal and work-based issues. All St. Vincent’s staff are eligible. The service is confidential, and provided by a third-party service, AccessEAP. The organisation does not disclose any personally identifying information or details of the counselling provided. The sessions are free, and limited to 6 sessions per employee, per year.
Alternatively, you can access the Nurse & Midwife Support (NM Support) services. They are a national phone and online service that offers health support to nurses and midwives in Australia. It is free, confidential and available 24hours, 7 days per week.
Further resources include the Support Team Action Response (STAR) is St Vincent’s critical incident stress management peer support program where trained colleagues can help staff deal with reactions to stressful events. They are available 24 hours a day to assist staff to deal with stress in the workplace.
STAR can provide information and referrals, support on a one-to-one basis and facilitate team debriefing sessions as needed.
The SVHM Library Service is a professional Library and Information Service for staff and students of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. Services are available onsite and remotely. Our website offers 24-hour access to books and journals, research help guides, and current awareness bulletins. Specialist staff deliver database search services and EndNote training.
The Carl de Gruchy Library is located at Fitzroy campus, 29 Regent Street Fitzroy, Ground Floor Clinical Sciences Building. The Carl de Gruchy Library is open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Meeting room bookings are available for small groups. Book borrowing and individual study at a desk or PC use are available for a limited number of individuals.
