Reconciliation
St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne proudly works alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Our work in this space is grounded in our Mission and Values and our ongoing commitment ensures our lived expression of reconciliation and the creation, tending and restoration of right relationships.
This understanding prompts us to face our vulnerabilities and helps us acknowledge that we are called to play an ongoing role in the work of reconciliation through reflection and practical action. Our commitment to justice and equitable outcomes is at the forefront of our thinking.
The St Vincent’s Health Australia 2020-2023 Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) aims to embed reconciliation in our daily business and work to raise awareness of reconciliation within our broader spheres of influence. This framework enables the consolidation of efforts and integration of initiatives as ‘business as usual’ in the four focus areas of relationships, respect, opportunities and governance.
St Vincent’s is characterised by people who are called to care for others. We pursue initiatives that lead to the strengthening of individual relationships, and those of teams and communities. Our work of health and wellness extends beyond our facility walls and we draw on the wisdom and knowledge of both our Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander and non-Indigenous staff, partners and communities to enable change.
Our organisational approach to reconciliation will prioritise the enabling and supporting of “Right Relationships” between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and our wider communities. Our Christian values and commitment to social justice call us to understand that for meaningful long-term positive change to occur, we must first begin by building mutually beneficial relationships of respect and trust.
Each one of us has a role to play in creating a just and equitable Australia. We invite you all to join us on the journey towards reconciliation.
