St Vincent’s adheres to PMCV guidelines, prioritising Victorian candidates for our GNP. Interstate, New Zealand and International candidates will only be considered post completion of the PMCV match. Any vacant positions in our GNP may then result in these candidates being considered.
All Victorian and interstate third year Nursing students who have Australian citizenship or permanent residency status, and New Zealand third year nursing students who wish to apply for a position in a Victorian GNP, are eligible to do so through the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) computer match process. PMCV can be contacted on (03) 9419 1217 or via email at email@example.com to discuss this process.
International students cannot apply to PMCV if they do not hold permanent residency status, but may apply directly to St Vincent’s, submitting the exact same requirements by our closing date. Applications may be considered following completion of the computer match process.
The computer match process allows students to nominate four Victorian hospitals. Students must also apply directly to each of the four individual nominated hospitals.
Prospective Graduates then visit the PMCV website (www.pmcv.com.au) Hospital Directory Section and lodge a ‘Candidates Priority List’.
Online Application Process
Candidates will need to use an online process to apply to the St Vincent’s Graduate Nurse Program.
Our 2017 GNP will be a part-time program of 0.8 EFT. When applying if you wish to alter the information you have uploaded, you can simply withdraw the application and start again.
If you require assistance submitting your application online contact People & Organisational Development (HR) on 03 9231 2820. To apply go to our website www.svhm.org.au and click on the Graduate Nurse Program 2016 photo, then follow the link.
- Applications for 2017 are now closed.
Step 1 - Lodge your Application
In your application we will require you to upload either a separate Word document or PDF for each of the following:
- Letter of application outlining why you wish to be a Graduate at St Vincent’s (maximum of one page). Address the letter to Graduate Nurse Coordinator.
- Curriculum vitae (maximum of three pages).
- Academic transcript to date, with results legend (certified copy).
- Complete certified copies of your two most recent third year clinical placement reports. Reports must be sent in their entirety not selected parts or pages. (If you have not completed a third year medical or surgical placement at the time of application, please also send your most recent second year medical/surgical placement report.) We do not accept Maternal Child & Health placements or Mental Health placement reports.
We do request that all original documents or certified copies of your application are made available at interview.
During the online application we will ask you to submit your Clinical Rotation Preferences and the name and details of one professional referee. The referee must be a Clinical Teacher, Preceptor, or a senior nurse to whom you have recently reported. You must inform your referee of your intention to list them.
Our initial stage assesses all components of the application and then a total overall score is given. Following this assessment we then shortlist for interviews. We interview only those candidates who meet our selection criteria.
We welcome Graduates from a diversity of backgrounds and universities and assure you that where you have undertaken clinical placements will not impact on your application. Each year we have Graduates from many different universities and campuses.
Step 2 - Attend an Interview
Once you have submitted all required documentation stated in Step 1 you may be contacted by email to attend an interview.
Allow approximately two hours for the interview which will include a team activity and an individual interview. Questions will include clinical scenarios to assess your understanding of the requirements of a Grade 2, Year 1 Registered Nurse and as a Graduate Nurse at St Vincent’s.
Interviews will be conducted during the week August 2017. (Interstate or regional candidates may be offered a phone interview).
Step 3 - Outcome of PMCV Match
Computer match results are released in October. If you are successfully matched to St Vincent’s you will be contacted by phone within 24 hours.
You must obtain your National Nursing Registration prior to commencement at St Vincent’s. Registration enquiries can be made to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency 1300 419 495 or www.ahpra.gov.au.
